Learning outcomes and graduate attributes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

GA1: Intellectual rigour, GA2: Creativity, GA3: Ethical practice, GA4: Knowledge of a discipline, GA5: Lifelong learning, GA6: Communication and social skills, GA7: Cultural competence

1 design a section of highway including the geometrical and pavement design.
2 design a subdivision including the layout, roads, drainage, water reticulation and sewage systems using relevant Australian Standards and codes of practice.
3 identify contextual factors and constraints and find solutions to overcome them using established engineering methods to develop solutions to design problems.
4 use relevant computer software to aid in the design of roads and subdivisions.
5 interpret and ensure that a subdivision design complies with the relevant legislation and statutory requirements.
6 communicate design considerations and final design outcomes in a written report.
