Enrolment information
Prior to enrolling in this unit students are expected to have developed a broad topic for their thesis project in consultation with an academic staff member, and obtained agreement from that academic staff member to supervise their project. Students undertaking a Major must also ensure that the topic area is related to the Major. Students who have not met these conditions must consult the Unit Assessor prior to enrolling.
Learning outcomes and graduate attributes
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
Learning outcome count | Learning outcome description | GA1 | GA2 | GA3 | GA4 | GA5 | GA6 | GA7 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | identify and locate research literature related to a chosen research area | |||||||
2 | critically review and evaluate relevant research literature using a thematic approach to identify knowledge gaps that could be addressed through a research project | |||||||
3 | define the scope of a research project to address one or more identified gaps in existing knowledge in terms of achievable aims and an appropriate methodology | |||||||
4 | present a coherent written proposal for a research study that describes the background, aims, rationale, methodology, and anticipated outcomes for the proposed study | |||||||
5 | demonstrate an ability to initiate a research project by sourcing necessary resources, obtaining necessary approvals, and commencing preliminary data collection. |
