Learning outcomes and graduate attributes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

1 identify and locate research literature related to a chosen research area
2 critically review and evaluate relevant research literature using a thematic approach to identify knowledge gaps that could be addressed through a research project
3 define the scope of a research project to address one or more identified gaps in existing knowledge in terms of achievable aims and an appropriate methodology
4 present a coherent written proposal for a research study that describes the background, aims, rationale, methodology, and anticipated outcomes for the proposed study
5 demonstrate an ability to initiate a research project by sourcing necessary resources, obtaining necessary approvals, and commencing preliminary data collection.
