Unit description

Introduces students to the principles and processes involved in the removal of contaminants from water. The unit covers  physical, chemical, and biological treatment principles, and the application of these principles to the design of functioning water treatment plants.

Topic 1: Physical, chemical and biological considerations in water treatment
Topic 2: Treatment plant design components
Topic 3: Sedimentation
Topic 4: Biological treatment and microbiology
Topic 5: Activated sludge
Topic 6: Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR)
Topic 7: Water treatment modelling
Topic 8: Membrane reactors
Topic 9: Eco-technology
Topic 10: Potable water treatment
