Learning outcomes and graduate attributes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

GA1: Intellectual rigour, GA2: Creativity, GA3: Ethical practice, GA4: Knowledge of a discipline, GA5: Lifelong learning, GA6: Communication and social skills, GA7: Cultural competence

1 demonstrate an understanding of concrete technology including the properties of concrete as a structural material, uses and limitations, basic concrete mix design, factors influencing durability and perform basic quality control tests on concrete
2 demonstrate an in-depth understanding of reinforced concrete structures including the properties of reinforced concrete as a structural material, uses and limitations, reinforced concrete structural design and factors influencing durability
3 design and detail, using engineering sketches, a range of reinforced concrete members including beams, slabs and columns
4 demonstrate an understanding of limit states design concepts and be able to apply to the design of concrete structures
5 produce comprehensive reports on experimental testing of concrete mix design, testing of concrete beams and quality control tests.
