Unit description

Introduces students to the development of a realistic project related to humanitarian engineering. Students will be exposed to the process of working in a team, when it is beneficial and why working as an individual also contributes to expeditious and efficient achievement of the design outcome. Experience in report writing and formal presentation of results will also be gained. A supported problem based learning strategy is used to develop skills in problem identification, concept formulation, critical and contextual thinking, evaluation and clear communication.

Topic 2: Working in teams
Topic 3: Finding and evaluating literature
Topic 4: Identifying and evaluating engineering risk
Topic 5: Engineering decision making
Topic 6: Engineering drawings and sketches
Topic 7: Quality control
Topic 8: Writing in the discipline and constructing an effective written report
Topic 9: Techniques for preparing presentations to describe proposed solutions clearly and succinctly
