Unit description

This discipline unit provides students with opportunities to build personal literacy, as well as the knowledge and skills to apply this in professional settings. Content topics will cover: literacy; professional literacy, and academic literacy.

Unit content

Topic 1: Language and standards

  • Nature and role of English as a language of communication for participation in society, through reading, writing, listening, speaking, viewing, and representing experiences, ideas and values
  • Study of the English language and how it is manipulated to meet higher-order social, aesthetic and cultural literacy demands
  • Children’s language, and metacognition of language-learning

Topic 3: Literacy across various content areas – Reading
