    Students must be enrolled in a Higher Degree by Research to undertake this unit.

Unit description

The unit requires you to showcase extended expert skills and knowledge within a professional working environment for career development and experience that was acquired during your Higher Degree Research degree. This double weighted unit provides extensive skills to help ensure work-readiness and assist in future employability based on an extended work-placement in industry, government, non-government organisations or academia.      

Unit content

1) An extended industry placement includes for example:
a. completion of a workplace induction
b. work contract or timesheets
c. reference/performance review from workplace supervisor indicating satisfactory performance at the expected level for a University Graduate
d. examples of tasks performed or written reports
e. any other evidence supporting transferable skills in the workplace.

OR:

2) An academic teaching contract for role as a unit assessor:
a. online supervisor training
b. unit information guide
c. lecture slides, tutorial notes and/or practical manual
d. assessment matrix or other evidence for managing student assessment
e. candidate evaluations indicating satisfaction with the unit and teaching performance

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

Complete an extended work placement (>8 weeks) or professional work contract (including unit assessor role)

Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a professional environment

Demonstrate the ability to integrate into a workplace, as well as communicating complex knowledge and concepts with supervisors, other workers, clients, students and/or stakeholders.

Use specialist knowledge and advanced technical skills to resolve complex problems in the workplace.
