Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

Demonstrate a familiarity with the major guidelines that inform ethical practice in research, whether human or non-human.

Explain the role of Human Research Ethics Committees, Animal Ethics Committees or Government research permit systems to prevent bio piracy and environmental impact associated with research activities.

Evaluate the ethical implications of a research study.

Develop and attain institutional ethics approval for a government permit for a research proposal.
