Unit description

This unit provides a strong knowledge base for students to develop business management principles and acumen. It will focus on how to manage an early childhood business effectively and to develop critical skills in applying financial requirements, and marketing in the early childhood sector.

Unit content

  1. Operationalising the organisation’s goals.
  2. Business basic management principles and capabilities for successful operations.
  3. Managing a business effectively: Effective enrolment techniques.
  4. Financial operations including accounting essentials, plan and apply for grants; financial reporting.
  5. Strategic planning cycles.
  6. Managing change for successful operation of ECEC services.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

Demonstrate and apply advanced knowledge of business management principles to operationalise the goals of an early childhood organisation.

Critically examine the business fundamentals to operate a successful early childhood service.

Develop critical skills in applying financial requirements to competently manage the operations of an ECEC service, including budgets, cost management and staffing.

Develop and evaluate strategic plans to facilitate change within an early childhood setting.
