    Students undertaking the Industrial Technology teaching area are required to attend compulsory skills development workshops.

Unit description

Builds upon the knowledge and skills in Industry and Material Practices A, to develop advanced design and production skills and knowledge of materials associated with either timber or food.  This unit enhances students' understanding of contemporary and advanced practices and a deeper understanding of the characteristics and properties related to the timber or food industry. Students undertaking the timber pathway are required to participate in compulsory skills development workshops that extends students' skills and methods for the safe design, development, and understanding of the use of appropriate technology and processes to produce quality products.   

Unit content

Module 1 Innovative industry practices in materials use and/or process. 
 
Module 2 Practise in design, documentation of products for communication. 
 
Module 3 Broad and critical materials knowledge of properties and performance. 
 
Module 4 Contemporary and emerging technologies and complex production practices. 
 
Module 5 Management in selection and use in a variety of resources and complex techniques. 
 
Module 6 Problem-solving, safety, production and evaluation of complex products.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

describe new and emerging technologies and their impact on the way manufactured products are made and used

discuss the practice of design, processes and manufacture in an industry context

demonstrate advanced, contemporary skills and methods and the use and maintenance of tools, equipment and/or machinery

apply project management (including WHS issues) and communication skills to the safe production and documentation of a complex, high quality product
