Enrolment information
Only students who are completing an additional secondary teaching area within Science, Technology OR HSIE are required to undertake this unit. Notes. 1. Students enrolling in this unit must have completed at least one Professional Experience unit, AND either Secondary Curriculum and Pedagogy I OR Secondary Advanced Curriculum and Pedagogy I unit. 2. Master of Teaching students MUST obtain Course Coordinator approval for a second teaching area to enrol in this unit.
Learning outcomes
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
demonstrate a broad and critical understanding of the knowledge base of Stage 6 syllabi, including recent theory and research in the relevant disciplines
develop engaging units of work and lesson plans and resources related to selected theoretical and practical content of the Stage 6 syllabi, demonstrating familiarity with the required syllabus outcomes, objectives, key competencies, knowledge, skills, and understandings; source and assess the appropriateness of digital and non-digital resources that link to informed and effective teaching and learning across the Stage 6 syllabi
apply current pedagogical theory, including the NSW DET Quality Teaching Framework, to develop effective teaching and learning strategies that encourage students with a diversity of learning needs, styles and cultural backgrounds to engage effectively with the Stage 6 syllabus, as appropriate to the needs and expectations of the profession
assess the literacy and numeracy demands of the Stage 6 syllabus and develop effective teaching and learning activities to integrate literacy and numeracy strategies; identify and critically examine assessment and reporting procedures and strategies in the context of the Preliminary and HSC standards-referenced assessment framework
