    Students MUST enrol in the first Professional Experience unit in Dual Term 3 of the same year as per the course progression. Students MUST achieve a Pass grade in EDUC2024 to commence professional experience placement.

Unit description

Introduces students to different ways of teaching and learning through observations of professional practice. Students develop an understanding of pedagogical frameworks and learning theories in education that inform professional standards, principles, and priorities. The unit emphases critical observations of practice for differentiation and diversity, interdisciplinarity, behaviour support, assessment and feedback.

Module 1. Standards, Principles and Priorities: The elements that guide teaching and learning in practice

Module 2. Theories and Frameworks: The ideas and organisation behind teaching and learning in practice

Module 3. Lessons, Activities and Learning Experiences: Planning for teaching and learning in practice

Module 4. Assessment and Feedback: Evaluating the impact of teaching and learning in practice

Module 5. Learning Environments and Behaviour Support: Creating a quality environment for teaching and learning in practice

Module 6. Observing Teaching and Learning in Practice

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

identify and illustrate key theories and frameworks for teaching and learning in practice

identify and illustrate key standards, principles and priorities for teaching and learning in practice

analyse and reflect on teaching, learning, assessment and feedback practices through observation and evaluation of lessons to inform professional improvement

examine and reflect on the impact of learning environments and behaviour support practices on student engagement and learning through observation and evaluation of classroom practice
