Unit description

This unit builds discipline-specific knowledge and capabilities for teaching PDHPE in early childhood and primary settings. Students examine relevant curriculum requirements, explore pedagogical approaches linking health and physical activity and design inclusive learning experiences that support engagement and transitions across early childhood and primary contexts.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

apply sound knowledge of relevant primary school curricula and early childhood curriculum requirements for PDHPE

apply pedagogical models and strategies for teaching PDHPE, including the use of ICTs

identify and examine sensitive issues in PDHPE teaching and apply protocols and procedures related to child protection, wellbeing and safety

develop PDHPE learning experiences that meaningfully support transitions across early childhood and primary contexts
