Learning outcomes and graduate attributes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

1 demonstrate a broad and critical understanding of the knowledge base of the Stage 6 Music 1, Music 2 and Extension syllabuses, including recent theory and research, contemporary perspectives and issues, and cultural contexts of relevance
2 source and assess the appropriateness of resources (including ICT) that link to informed and effective teaching and learning in the Music Stage 6 syllabuses
3 develop engaging units of work and lesson plans related to selected theoretical and practical content and learning outcomes from a Music Stage 6 syllabuses, demonstrating familiarity with the required syllabus outcomes, objectives, key competencies, knowledge, skills and understandings
4 apply current pedagogical theory including the NSW DEC Quality Teaching Framework to the development of effective teaching and learning strategies that encourage students with a diversity of learning needs, styles and cultural backgrounds to engage effectively with Music in Stage 6
5 demonstrate well-developed written and oral communication skills, as appropriate to the needs and expectations of the profession
6 identify and critically examine assessment and reporting procedures and strategies in the context of the Preliminary and HSC standards-referenced assessment framework
7 prepare assessment tasks and marking criteria for Stage 6 outcomes with a particular emphasis on integration of Performance, Composition, Musicology and Aural aspects.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
