Unit description

Focuses on the development of knowledge and understanding of the New South Wales Technology (Mandatory) Stage 4 course and the materials, tools and techniques related to a range of technologies included in the Technology (Mandatory) syllabus. There is also an emphasis on the development of skills in the selection of materials, safe use of tools and equipment and appropriate techniques that will be developed through practical application in a workshop environment. Related WH&S issues will be addressed.

Unit content

1. The structure of the NSW Technology (Mandatory) Stage 4 course.
2. The common properties of food within each of the food groups. 
3. Characteristics and properties of different fibre and fabric types. 
4. Colouration methods used for textiles. 
5. The characteristics and properties of timber and timber products. 
6. The characteristics and properties of a wide range of materials such as metals, polymers, electronics, etc.
7. The range, suitability and use of materials, resources and data types for both graphics and media technologies. 
8. Features of common graphic types. 
9. Hand drawn and computer aided methods of graphical representations including orthogonal; pictorial drawings and rendering. 
10. Software used in graphics and media technologies including desktop publishing, presentation, drawing, colouring and editing, word processing and web design. 
11. Media planning including storyboards and scripts.
