Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

list and explain the terminology of the relational database model

analyse business information requirements using entity relationship diagrams (ERD)

analyse a data model (ERD) into a logical database design with normalised relations

design, develop, test and prove the functionality of a database

construct, write and execute SQL queries

explain the necessary steps to develop an effective physical database design

explain the main functions of database administration and data warehouses.
