Unit description

This unit introduces students to the theoretical knowledge and counselling skills associated with counselling children and young people, including a range of individual, family, creative and group therapies.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

recognise the developmental stages in both children and young people

identify and appropriately select from a range of individual and group therapies suitable for use with children and young people

identify ethical and legal issues when working with children and young people

apply counselling skills required for working with children and young people, recognising appropriate and inappropriate application of those skills
