Unit description

This dual-term capstone project unit provides practical experience in analysing, designing, developing, and testing a particular information technology project or in thoroughly investigating a particular area of information technology for an industry client using core IT skills and skills specific to their specialisation of study, with a focus on either artificial intelligence or cybersecurity. No new theory topics are introduced in this unit. The project requires students to integrate and consolidate knowledge and skills acquired throughout their degree, including project management, professional ethics, communication and teamwork, and technical skills, in order to prepare them for the transition from study to professional practice in industry. The project has both team and individual work elements. A team of students will work together on the project. Each team member will be involved in overall team-oriented responsibilities and will contribute to their team by employing specialist capabilities.

Unit content

Module 1:  Essential ICT professional skills, project management principles, and Atlassian software

Module 2:  Project selection, proposal, requirements analysis and design

Module 3:  Communication, teamwork, and logbook

Module 4:  Project change management, motoring and optimisation

Module 5:  Testing and quality assurance

Module 6:  Project closure and documentation

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

apply project management principles to plan a real-world small-scale project

apply Agile project management methodologies to iteratively design, implement, and refine technical solutions that meet evolving client requirements

integrate ethical practice, teamwork, and professional communication in engaging with project stakeholders

develop professional technical documentation that integrates ethical considerations and evaluates technical capabilities developed through the project.
