Unit description

Gives students knowledge and skills to secure and operate networked information systems including their software, applications and services. Students will learn about operating systems, their security mechanisms and the prevalent security threats to hosts and applications as well as how to defend a networked information system against these security threats.

Topic 1: Operating systems architecture and security mechanisms

Topic 2: Prevalent security threats to hosts and applications

Topic 3: Install, configure and secure operating systems and their services

Topic 4: System penetration testing

Topic 5: System attack vector analysis

Topic 6: Business continuity planning and implementation

explain operating systems architectures and their security mechanisms

identify and analyse prevalent security threats to hosts and applications

install, configure and secure important operating systems services

conduct penetration testing against a networked information system

design and verify plan to restore the system operation in case of a security breach.
