Unit description

Gives students an in-depth understanding and practical experience in managing small-to-medium enterprise networks. Students will gain knowledge and skills to conduct different network management tasks including monitoring and controlling network performance, security and configuration, troubleshooting network issues and providing advice and guidance to management on planning and upgrading networks.

Topic 4: Managing layer-3 network protocols and devices

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

Conduct predefined procedures and steps to manage, monitor and control network performance, security, configuration and inventory of small-to-medium enterprise networks

Diagnose, analyse and troubleshoot common issues of small-to-medium enterprise networks

Plan for and assist with network planning, maintenance, software and configuration upgrade to maintain business continuity

Evaluate and select suitable network technology based on business requirements

Conduct research and provide advice and guidance to management on recent trends and development in computer communication network technologies
