Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

1 Understand the role of the ADEA and begin working towards credentialing as a diabetes educator clinician, working within the scope of practice of the diabetes educator, and their own primary discipline
2 comply with the ADEA legal and ethical framework, and within individual area's policies and procedures
3 summarise the psychological issues for clients with a diagnosis of diabetes and the barriers to clients self management
4 employ counselling skills and techniques for clients using motivational interviewing
5 summarise the issues of living with diabetes within various client groups, including indigenous, elderly, paediatrics, mental health, cultural and linguistically diverse clients and with the families and carers of clients
