Enrolment information
It is assumed that students are familiar with the main features of structural analysis, design of reinforced concrete structures, e.g. as taught in the unit CIVL3002 - Analysis and Computer Modelling of Structures and CIVL2003 - Concrete Structures.
Learning outcomes
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
demonstrate an understanding of prestressed concrete technology including the materials involved, the behaviour of prestressed concrete elements, the prestressing techniques and the losses of prestress
design and analyse prestressed concrete elements using critical stress state approach and Magnel’s diagram
demonstrate an understanding of the behaviour of prestressing anchorages, bond stresses, anchor heads and end blocks
use advanced structural analysis techniques to analyse complex structures.
