Learning outcomes
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
employ a systems approach for the design of concrete structures to analyse given civil engineering problems
apply practical engineering methods, techniques, tools and resources to design solutions to a well-defined problem related to concrete structure systems
develop a well-defined project on the concrete structure systems and clearly communicate the outcomes
self-assess use of management skills, social skills and professional judgement in contributing to the successful completion of a well-defined project related to concrete structure systems
evaluate design loads using structural analysis based on strength and serviceability limit states, analyse the properties of concrete and steel bars, and design a concrete mix proportion of a certain grade
perform calculations necessary for the design of reinforced concrete beams, slabs, columns and footings following Australian Standards.
