Unit description

Prepares students for clinical placement and also provides them with the opportunity to observe and  apply their skills and knowledge within the context of operational Clinical Exercise Physiology facilities. Additionally the time spent should contribute to the required work experience for accreditation with ESSA as an Exercise Physiologist.

Unit content

Professional practice: students will attend and participate in  clinical placements whereby they will engage in professional practice under the supervision of Accredited Exercise Physiologists or other qualified Allied Health Practitioners as deemed appropriate in the administration of client care.

  • Internal placement hours within the Southern Cross University Health Clinic:
    • Compulsory placement attendance under the supervision of an accredited Exercise Physiologist.
    • Students will be expected to attend 1 to 2 shifts (approximately 6-12 hours) per week for a total of 15/16 weeks. The exact amount and duration of shifts will be communicated to the students at the start of session and will be determined by the total amount of students enrolled for the unit as well as the availability of clinical supervisors.
  • External placement hours:
    • Complete hours within an approved clinical placement/s setting/s under the supervision of an accredited Exercise Physiologist or appropriate allied health professional.

Students will reflect upon their experiences at each placement with a focus on personal practice, the observation of practitioner/client interaction and modes of practice.
