2 investigate the aetiology and pathophysiology of diabetes and other disorders of carbohydrate metabolism

4 explore the role of physical activity and its relationship to glucose metabolism
5 provide accurate information for screening and diagnostic criteria for T1DM T2DM and gestational diabetes
6 examine the consequences of the rise in obesity and the impact of chronic complications of the disease
7 critically appraise important research in the field of diabetes, including studies from all relevant specialities (e.g. renal, ophthalmology and cardiovascular).
