Enrolment information
The laboratory activities within this unit require students to fulfil certain vaccination compliance requirements prior to attending laboratory classes. As some vaccination protocols can take up to 5 months to complete, we encourage you to prepare now. Compliance requirements include SCU Vaccination requirements in accordance with state Health policies: NSW Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases; and QLD Health Vaccination Requirements. SCU has incorporated a combined NSW and QLD vaccination procedure as students may need to attend laboratory classes in both states. Full details of vaccination compliance requirements for this unit are available at the school of health professional experience page
Learning outcomes and graduate attributes
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
Learning outcome count | Learning outcome description | GA1 | GA2 | GA3 | GA4 | GA5 | GA6 | GA7 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | summarise disease processes from a biochemical viewpoint | |||||||
2 | employ problem solving and application of biochemical concepts to clinical scenarios | |||||||
3 | debate developments in gene therapy for the treatment of a range of genetic, non-genetic diseases and cancer | |||||||
4 | evaluate biochemical and/or genetic clinical data and justify conclusions | |||||||
5 | solve clinical cases by using biochemical methods | |||||||
6 | select and employ relevant laboratory methods and safe practice in the biochemical laboratory |
