Learning outcomes and graduate attributes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

GA1: Intellectual rigour, GA2: Creativity, GA3: Ethical practice, GA4: Knowledge of a discipline, GA5: Lifelong learning, GA6: Communication and social skills, GA7: Cultural competence
Learning outcome count Learning outcome description GA1 GA2 GA3 GA4 GA5 GA6 GA7
1 summarise the role of genetic changes, single nucleotide polymorphisms and epigenetics on inheritance and comment on lifestyle, environmental and nutritional factors impacting inheritance
2 critique the evidence for the role of adipocytes and evaluate the effect of appetite regulators
3 synthesize knowledge of the multiple factors engaged in the regulation of the gastrointestinal tract, summarising the physiological compromise caused by common upper GIT pathologies and related drug-nutrient interactions
4 summarise the metabolic functions of the liver and relation nutrition, GIT health and life-style choices to the progression of non-alcohol related fatty liver disease
5 evaluate the evidence for the role of gastrointestinal microbiota in health and disease, and a number of common conditions of the lower bowel
6 summarise the role of the endocrine, respiratory, hepatic and renal systems in electrolyte, acid-base and fluid balance and relate these to chronic renal disease
7 develop an independent learning approach to the use of information technology and knowledge communication
