  • Enrolment information

There will be a 3-day compulsory residential for Online students that will be held on the Lismore campus. Please refer to https://www.scu.edu.au/timetables for further information on timetables. This unit is offered at Lismore and NMSC for on-campus undergraduate students. Practical classes are run specifically for Head Start (High School) students at Gold Coast. This location is not available to undergraduate students.

Learning outcomes and graduate attributes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

GA1: Intellectual rigour, GA2: Creativity, GA3: Ethical practice, GA4: Knowledge of a discipline, GA5: Lifelong learning, GA6: Communication and social skills, GA7: Cultural competence
Learning outcome count Learning outcome description GA1 GA2 GA3 GA4 GA5 GA6 GA7
1 explain the cellular basis of life, and describe such processes as diffusion, osmosis, active uptake, photosynthesis and respiration
2 list the diagnostic features by which living organisms are classified into taxonomic groups and outline phylogenetic relationships
3 state the morphological, anatomical and physiological features of living organisms that adapt them to their environment
4 describe elements of plant and animal physiology
5 describe how cells divide and explain the genetic basis of heredity and population variation
6 discuss the origins of variation within a population and the manner in which natural selection operates on that variation to produce evolutionary change
7 apply a range of practical skills.
