Unit description

Introduce students to advanced concepts and skills related to professional roles in psychology in both the clinical and research domains, as well as those that may apply in a wide range of employment settings requiring critical thinking, ethical interpersonal behaviour and interviewing. This unit employs a combination of problem based learning and teacher directed activities.

  • Motivational and Professional interviewing
  • Ethical Principles and Practice
  • Finding funding opportunities and Grant writing
  • Exposure to community-based professionals in the field of psychology and research
  • Resume development
  • Personal reflection on career goals and fit with available careers
  • Knowledge of the implementation, and interpretation, of some of the most widely used cognitive and personality assessments

Learning outcomes and graduate attributes

5 Demonstrate interviewing skills for use in understanding professional roles that may use psychology-related skills.
6 Consolidate understanding of the professional skill of writing successful grant applications.

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
