Unit description

Explores the contribution of psychological factors to the risk of illness or injury and to the maintenance of well-being or ill-health. Conceptual and theoretical issues related to health management and promotion will be examined. Current research into health psychology conducted in the School of Health and Human Sciences is showcased.

Unit content

This unit will involve a number of educational experiences designed to meet its aims and objectives:
 
Research Snapshots
Health psychology researchers will give a “snapshot” description of their work in a question and answer format, Students may participate live on Coffs Harbour campus or via Blackboard Collaborate. These sessions will be recorded for those students that are not able to participate live. Questions posted on the Unit Learning Site Discussion Board within one week of the live session will also be addressed.
 
Integrated Reading
Students will be set chapters of the text to be read each week. A reading integration session will be held each week allowing students to discuss this material with the Unit Assessor, and to explore the connections between this material and the research Snapshots.
 
Interteaching tutorials
Weekly tutorials will employ an interteaching method in which students work in groups of two to “teach” material to each other based upon the text book readings.
