Unit description

Provide students with an understanding of the concepts and application of Advanced Sport and Exercise Psychology. Utilising a variety of learning opportunities and experiences ranging from formal teaching to more activity-based and experiential learning, students will apply knowledge of the psychological intervention techniques used to enhance performance, learning and adherence in sport and exercise. Application of the techniques to both individual and group situations are considered as well as interventions for special populations, with emphasis on real-life projects and applications.

Models for client contact, interaction and assessment Integrating and implementing psychological intervention Professional referral procedures Increasing Awareness Goal Setting Understanding and using Imagery Cognitive Techniques Relaxation and Energy Techniques Psychological factors within injury and rehabilitation Career transition in sport and exercise Psychological considerations for individuals with a disability Evidence based practice in applied settings
