Unit description

Investigating the technical foundations of Printmaking, this unit considers the role of printing as an historically rich artistic form in relation to other art forms and as a contemporary medium of art practice. The unit provides students with an in-depth introduction to hands-on skill development in a variety of printing processes with an emphasis on types of printing, paper supports, grounds, inks, colour, mediums, and a consideration of their works in the context of contemporary visual art.

  • Relief, Intaglio, and Screen Printing will be investigated
  • Understand print editions and artist proofs and monoprints
  • Support structures for printing
  • Technical competence with different techniques

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
