Unit description

Introduces students to concepts and practices of digital drawing, typography and their integration into visual arts and graphic design. Portfolio outcomes include investigations into ‘place’ and identity with community outcomes. Critical evaluative skills of their own work and the work of others are reviewed and developed.

Topic 1: Planning workflow

Topic 2: 'Mapping' sites for design - design principles and context

Topic 3: Vector graphics

Topic 4: Typography

Topic 5: Shape and structure: framing and the silhouette

Topic 6: Reading symbols in design

Topic 7: Colour, ornamentation and pattern

Topic 8: Integrating typography and manipulated imagery

Topic 9: Importing, exporting and outputting files

Topic 10: Critical analysis of contemporary digital art and design
