Unit description

Introduces students to the basic principles of design and digital imaging through a combination of practice and theory using Photoshop. A basic pathway enables students to complete competency-based modules. An optional advanced pathway enables students to undertake an additional design project where self-expression and technical ability are assessed.

Topic 1: Introduction to the unit: Photomontage and digital storytelling

Topic 2: Acquiring raw materials, appropriation and copyright issues

Topic 3: Digital Imaging basics and making selections

Topic 4: Hybrid imagery

Topic 5: Composition strategies

Topic 6: Using digital colour

Topic 7: Creating spatial illusions using layers, filters and transparency

Topic 8: Animation basics

Topic 9: Adding sound to moving imagery

Topic 10: Critical practice, observation and reflection
