Enrolment information
This unit has a compulsory 2-day residential component at the Lismore campus covering both extensive (e.g. grazing systems) and intensive (e.g. feedlots) animal production systems. This exercise will allow students to observe and evaluate considerations from each module in real-world scenarios.
Learning outcomes
Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. These outcomes are aligned with the graduate attributes. The unit learning outcomes and graduate attributes are also the basis of evaluating prior learning.
On completion of this unit, students should be able to:
describe major animal production systems and their associated supply chains
describe physiology of major production animals in Australia including ruminant and non-ruminant animals
appraise collaboratively how livestock systems can be managed to enhance sustainability, security, and profitability based on site visits
explain the role of ethical treatment of animals in production systems
