Unit description

Introduces the concepts, principles and techniques of accounting and finance used by internal and external decision makers through teacher-directed activities. This unit focuses on providing the fundamental knowledge and skills to enable students to appreciate how accounting and finance is used for planning and control in organisations.

Learning outcomes

Unit Learning Outcomes express learning achievement in terms of what a student should know, understand and be able to do on completion of a unit. On completion of this unit, students should be able to:

review financial statements of the business, Balance Sheet, Income statement and Cash flow statement

undertake a ratio analysis of a company’s financial statements

discuss and apply budgeting, performance measurement, Cost-volume-profit analysis and capital investment techniques to make appropriate business decision

distinguish and compare alternative sources of financing for business.
