Overview
Transition to Uni is a free, intensive preparatory course designed for recent school leavers who have received an ATAR or are ATAR-eligible.
The six-week course is a full-time intensive program. Students should ensure that they are able to devote approximately 40 hours per week for study, including 10 hours of class and up to 30 hours for independent study and assessment preparation each week.
The course develops the key academic literacies and the foundational scientific and mathematical concepts you will need at university, through interactive online modules, live online classes and assessment preparation. You can proceed to a degree with the confidence you are ready to succeed in your university studies.
Students must pass all units in the program in order to complete Transition to Uni. Students who successfully complete the Transition to Uni program are eligible for entry into a Southern Cross University undergraduate degree*.
- Some courses have additional entry requirements such as an interview or English language requirements. Please refer to the relevant course page for further information.
- Students seeking entry to the Bachelor of Engineering Systems (Honours) or the double degree Bachelor of Engineering Systems (Honours), Bachelor of Business on the basis of completion of Transition to Uni must achieve a Distinction or above in the unit UNIP1007 Science and Maths for University.
- Students seeking entry to the Bachelor of Midwifery on the basis of completion of Transition to Uni must achieve a Credit average or above in the program.
This course consists of two core units designed to prepare students for critical reading and writing, and scientific and mathematical problem-solving at university. The two core units are:
- Academic Literacies
- Science and Maths for University.
Each of these units involves around 20 hours of study per week. In total, students should expect to spend up to 40 hours on study each week during Transition to Uni. Students should ensure that they have this time available for the duration of their studies.

Entry requirements
- To satisfy both general admission and English Language Proficiency Requirements, all applicants must have completed secondary study to the level of Year 12 in an Australian Secondary School the year preceding their enrolment in this course.
- Applicants must be eligible for ATAR or equivalent.
- Applicants who have already been offered a place at Southern Cross University are not eligible to apply.
Course requirements
To achieve satisfactory completion of the course, a candidate shall successfully complete all core units.
Participation
Students who do not participate in a unit before census date will be deemed to be inactive and unenrolled from the unit. Participation is determined by presence on the online learning site, and by submitting their first assessment.
