Teachers qualified to teach mathematics are in very short supply across Australia. This short course enables out-of-field mathematics teachers to deliver teaching programs and activities to support students’ mathematics and numeracy success.
Designed for current secondary teachers of Years 7–10 and primary teachers, the Professional Certificate in Teaching Mathematics (Out-of-field Teachers) is a 192-hour course over 12 weeks, comprising approximately eight hours of workplace learning, six hours of self-access learning and one hour engagement with a mentor each week.
The course has been developed in partnership with Mathematics Association of NSW. This course may be a pathway to further study, providing 24 credit points towards the Graduate Certificate in Education (Professional Learning).
This course is supported with Commonwealth funding for a micro-credential pilot program. This grant provides the funds for 60 students for the first offering of this course, set for March 2024.
