Overview
The Master of International Tourism and Hotel Management from Southern Cross University is designed for students who wish to gain a higher degree to help them secure senior management employment in tourism or hospitality organisations. It equips graduates with advanced business acumen, management skills and specialised industry knowledge considered essential for managerial-level graduates. Graduates of this course will emerge as confident leaders, sensitive to complex issues and challenges that at times confront the global tourism and hotel industries.
The degree is flexible, enabling students to choose a study plan that matches their career path. Students study core business management units then select from a range of specialised units relevant to their career path including tourism management, hotel management and convention and event management.
Advanced standing may apply to students who have completed relevant undergraduate and postgraduate study.

As part of this course, students may choose to undertake a 300-hour internship (equivalent to two units) in either a paid or volunteer role. This practical experience, combined with theoretical understanding, enhances the learning experience for students who have a professional and personal interest in this high growth area.
Students are responsible for securing their internship placement and are given extensive assistance in interview and application procedures, access to an extensive database of potential employers and roles and ongoing support from the dedicated Work Integrated Learning team.
The course provides a comprehensive study of aspects of tourism and hotel management from both theoretical and practical 'real world' perspectives taught by academics with industry backgrounds.
Students also undertake an independent research project (equal to two units), towards the end of their degree, to focus on an aspect of tourism that interests them.

Credit for prior learning
- Candidates who have completed a Bachelor degree in a cognate field will be granted four (4) units of Advanced Standing from either the Core or Elective units of the Schedule.
- Candidates may be granted advanced standing on the basis of relevant work experience or professional qualifications obtained through formal, non-formal or informal learning.

The MNG03237 Tourism and Hotel Internship unit is equivalent to two units, usually completed over a 10-week (300 hours) period towards the completion of the degree. All internship placements must be approved by the Work Integrated Learning Coordinator, prior to commencement. Students who wish to enrol in MNG03237 must first complete MNG0326 Business Professional Development, in preparation for Internship.
