Overview
The Master of Education is an innovative and practical course for professional educators. It has pathways relevant for teachers and educational leaders from all sectors, including early childhood, primary, secondary, vocational education and training and higher education. It enables educators to significantly advance their practice in a range of areas including leadership, innovation and change, student wellbeing and educational research and evaluation.
Significant advanced standing (or credit) is available for those with relevant previous learning and expertise. Educational professionals can enrol in the full award or complete individual units as professional development.

Entry requirements
- All applicants for admission to candidature must provide evidence of at least one year's experience in a field of education.
- As an alternative to Rule 2, Section 3 of the University’s Rules Relating to Awards, applicants for admission to candidature in the Master of Education may be selected where they can demonstrate academic or professional standing considered by the School Board to be equivalent to the requirements of Rule 2, Section 3 of the University’s Rules Relating to Awards.
Credit for prior learning
- Candidates who have completed all the requirements for a Level 7 qualification in education may be granted advanced standing for four (4) units.
- In addition to Rule 2, Section 4 the Head of School may grant a student advanced standing where they have completed formal, non-formal or informal learning accepted by the University and accompanied by supporting documentary evidence.
Course requirements
To be eligible for the award of Master of Education a candidate shall successfully complete the equivalent of sixteen (16) units comprising:
- all units listed in Part A of the Schedule of Units attached to these Rules; and
- ten (10) units selected from Part B of the Schedule.
- Notwithstanding Requirements for an Award Rule (b), the Course Coordinator may approve the substitution of up to four (4) relevant postgraduate coursework units from elsewhere in the University’s offerings for those in Part B of the Schedule.
