Overview

Knowledge of the intricacies of the law and of business can give you a competitive edge, regardless of the field you work in.

Our five-year double degree takes you into many areas of the law relevant to Australian organisations – from industrial relations to corporate finance. You can tailor your degree through the choice of a business major and a wide range of law electives.

Graduates are prepared for a wide range of career opportunities extending across the law and business in the private and public sectors. The Bachelor of Laws (LLB) fulfils the academic requirements for admission to the legal profession. Professional admission authorities also require law graduates of all universities to complete practical legal training or similar to be eligible to practise as a lawyer.

Applicants who do not have the required entry mark for a double degree in law are encouraged to apply for the Bachelor of Business and Enterprise in the first instance.

Course Learning Outcome

Access, manage, research and evaluate sources of information using intellectual and practical skills relevant to legal research and policy issues in professional practice.

Develop and create effective solutions to straight forward problems from a discipline area.

Critically evaluate, analyse and synthesise a straight forward issue or theory from a discipline area to arrive at a conclusion / decision with justification.

Apply legal reasoning, critical analysis and research to generate appropriate responses to legal problems.

Apply knowledge and skills creatively in devising solutions to challenges related to a business discipline.

Demonstrate an understanding of approaches to ethical decision-making and an ability to recognise, reflect upon, and respond to ethical issues likely to arise in professional contexts.

Demonstrate an ability to recognise and reflect upon the professional responsibilities of lawyers in promoting justice and sustainability in service to the community.

Describe and apply a recognised ethical framework to analyse behaviour in a discipline or workplace/ organisation.

Apply discipline based knowledge and skills in situations that require autonomy and well-developed responsible behaviour.

Learn and work independently by reflection and assessment of their own capabilities and performance, and seek and make use of feedback as appropriate, to determine personal and professional development needs and achievements.

Demonstrate and apply in-depth discipline specific knowledge and skills with a global perspective.

Bachelor of Laws students can undertake voluntary legal experience and professional placement with legal firms or offices, to complement their practical legal skills and become familiar with the issues facing working lawyers..

There are no majors in the Bachelor of Laws degree, but a diverse range of law-based elective units is available.
 
The following Bachelor of Business and Enterprise majors are available in the double degree:
  • Aviation Management
  • Business and Data Analytics
  • Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
Specialisations available in the Bachelor of Business and Enterprise include:
  • Accounting
  • Financial Services.
Please note that not all majors are offered at each location, but if a student is enrolled internally, they can still study any major online.

Career Outcomes

The Bachelor of Laws is accredited by the Legal Profession Admission Board (LPAB) of NSW and satisfies the academic requirements for admission to the practice of law in Australia. Professional admission authorities also require law graduates of all universities to complete practical legal training to practise as a lawyer.

Students who intend to practise law outside Australia should check with the relevant country’s admission body to confirm their practising requirements..

Course requirements

To be eligible to receive the Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Business and Enterprise, students must complete the equivalent of 32 units (384 credit points), comprising:

  • 20 core units (240 credit points),
  • 8 Business units (96 credit points), and
  • 4 Business Law Option units (48 credit points).

Exit Awards

Students may be eligible to exit with a Bachelor of Laws after completing the equivalent of 24 units (288 credit points), refer to the Bachelor of Laws Schedule of Units.

Students may be eligible to exit with a Bachelor of Business and Enterprise after completing the equivalent of 24 units (288 credit points), refer to the Bachelor of Business and Enterprise Schedule of Units.
