Studies include key operational subjects such as food and beverage, accommodation operations, and introduction to professional practice, together with introductory management subjects including finance, marketing and hospitality management. Students also develop advanced analytical, strategic, and management skills.

A six-month professional hospitality placement is a key feature of the course and counts as four core units of the degree. This may be completed in Australia or overseas. All students establish valuable industry experience, confidence and networks. The professional experience enables students to continue employment during their study.

Course requirements

See the University’s Rules Relating to Awards, in conjunction with the Specific Award Rules listed below.

  1. To be eligible for the award of the Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management degree a candidate shall successfully complete not less than twenty-four (24) units (288 credit points) comprising:
    1. all units listed in Part A; and
    2. three (3) units from Part B; or
    3. three (3) other units acceptable to the Course Coordinator.
  2. To be eligible for the award of Associate Degree of Business in Hotel Management degree a candidate shall successfully complete no less than sixteen (16) units (192 credit points) from Part A.
  3. To be eligible for the award of the Diploma of Hotel Management a candidate shall successfully complete no less than eight (8) units (96 credit points) from Part A.
  4. A candidate in the Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management who has completed the requirements for the Associate Degree of Business in Hotel Management may elect to be awarded the Associate Degree of Business in Hotel Management following withdrawal from the candidature for the Bachelor Degree.
  5. A candidate in the Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management who has completed the requirements for the Diploma of Hotel Management may elect to be awarded the Diploma of Hotel Management following withdrawal from the candidature for the Bachelor Degree.
