Course summary

To forge a business career you need creative and agile thinking as much as a calculator. Our Bachelor of Business is taught in a dynamic environment where fresh ideas and a global outlook are always flavour of the month.

Work placements are a feature – you can complete internships either in Australia or abroad in your field of interest, building your professional networks as you earn credit towards your degree.

You'll learn foundational business principles in law, accounting, economics, management and statistics. You can also pursue specialist knowledge from a diverse range of majors, including aviation (that includes a specific pathway to gain a Commercial Pilot’s Licence), or majors in finance, accounting, international business, management, human resources and marketing.

Our graduates gain the professional, critical thinking and communication skills to run their own businesses or pursue careers in marketing, product management, investment, finance and more.

Students have the option of completing the core units in the Bachelor of Business plus electives or they may specialise in one or more business disciplines of their choice through the study of a single or double major.

All majors are available in online study mode. On-campus students may also study any Bachelor of Business major online. Some majors, study streams and units may not be available at each campus location.

Note 1: MNG73005 - Internship A and MNG73006 - Internship B are both double-weighted units requiring a 16 unit pre-requisite including the Professional Development for the Workplace unit (MNG10476 - Professional Development for the Workplace). Please be aware of this double-weighting if you are restricted in the number of electives you can select in your major. All internship placements must be approved by the Work Integrated Learning Coordinator, prior to commencement.
Note 2: Only available to students studying at the Institute of Business Studies (IBS) in Papua New Guinea
Note 3: The Bachelor of Business Finance Major is a pathway to many financial services positions such as Commercial Banking, Corporate Finance, Funds Management and Stockbroking, Financial Risk Management, Foreign Exchange and Investment Banking. If your chosen career path is to become a licenced Financial Planner or Financial Adviser, you need to be aware that recent legislative changes in the finance industry now require new entrants to hold an Approved Degree. While SCU is in the process of liaising with FASEA to develop and restructure its finance degrees to meet the new educational requirements, a timeline of when this will occur cannot be provided at this stage. For more information on Approved Degrees or educational pathways, please contact the Financial Advisor Standards Ethics Authority (FASEA) to confirm the educational accreditation requirements needed for your future career path. https://www.fasea.gov.au
Note 4: For students wishing to also meet the Tax Practitioner Board’s educational requirements for Tax Agent Licencing, it is recommended you enrol in two further units as electives as follows: ACC00134 - Advanced Taxation; AND LAW00052 - Introduction to Land Law, OR LAW00126 - Competition and Consumer Law.
Note 5: Students considering taking the Accounting and Finance majors as a double major are instructed to contact the Course Coordinator before enrolling into the majors.
